“Tissue Reconstruction in War and Peace” 

There is an old medical saying:”If you want to teach a surgeon, send him to War” 

The dreadful truth of this adage was most apparent in WWI. AVM Bartholomeusz will take us on a “plastic surgery” journey from the tentative steps of Sir Harold Gillies and his team in WWI to today 



Hugh Bartholomeusz was educated at Brisbane High School and attended the University of Queensland and has been in private plastic surgery practice in Brisbane and the West Moreton Region since then. He is currently the Senior Plastic Surgeon at Greenslopes Private Hospital. 

He has had a distinguished career in both the RAAF Reserve and the Air Cadets, and has recently retired from active duty. 

He has held office in many medical, surgical Associations both in Australia and overseas. He is currently an Associate Professor at the University of Queensland. 

His hobbies include cricket, golf and fishing. He and his wife Helga have three adult children and two grandchildren and live in Brisbane.
