THE AUSTRALIAN DEFENCE FORCE BUILDING PARTNER CAPACITY: THE AFGHAN NATIONAL ARMY OFFICER ACADEMY

PRESENTED BY LT COLONEL STEPHEN JENKINS DSM


Lt Colonel Stephen Jenkins DSM graduated from the Royal Military College, Duntroon, in December 1993 into the Royal Australian Artillery Corps. Throughout his career, Lt Colonel Jenkins has served in all three of the Australia’s Regular Army Brigades.

Lt Colonel Jenkins operational service includes Timor Leste in 1999, Iraq in 2005 and Afghanistan in 2010 and 2016/17. He has conducted exchange visits and secondments with the militaries of India, Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam, New Zealand and the United States.
Lt Colonel Jenkins has been awarded a Commander 1st Brigade commendation, for the development of Offensive Support within the Parachute Battalion Group in 1997, a NSW Police Services commendation, for assisting in foiling bank robbery on the 30th April 1997, a Commander 1st Division commendation for his actions during a riot like situation on the 25th January 2000.

A Chief of Army Commendation for development of Command and Control training for Army units deploying on operations and contingency forces, including the emerging defence amphibious capability in 2013 and he was awarded a Distinguished Service Medal in the Australia Day Honours list 2018, for distinguished leadership in the development and delivery of officer training capability for the Afghan National Army on Operation Highroad from February 2016 to March 2017.

Lt Colonel Jenkins is married to Kylie and has three children and two grandchildren. Lt Colonel Jenkins interests include all outdoor activities, boating, rugby union and volleyball.
