The Royal Australian Navy: The Next Three Years

Vice Admiral Tim Barrett, AO, CSC, RAN, Chief of Navy

In a speech in late in 2016, the Chief of Navy reflected on the opportunities and challenges of the largest recapitalisation of the RAN since World War II.  

He emphasised it was not about building an interoperable navy but building an integrated force for the Australian Defence Force.

He also noted Navy would need to design and train 'from the ground up' to have a force trained and equipped to be capable of the decisive and distributed lethality necessary for winning in contemporary operations.

Vice Admiral Tim Barrett joined the Navy in 1976 as a Seaman Officer and later specialised in Aviation.  He assumed command of the RAN on 1 July 2014.  His full biography is here.
