Why Australia went to the Great War

Tuesday 8 May, Lecture Room 05, Building 30, UNSW at ADFA. 0900 to 1545. Download the flyer here. What were the issues behind Australia's decision to go to war with Germany? What was the decision making process? Was it because of imperial influences, a perceived German threat, or part of a mercantile struggle?  How has the decision to enter the war been justified in subsequent Australian history? Five historians give their differing views on the subject.  Admission is free, refreshments and lunch provided. Register at acsacs@adfa.edu.au for catering please.

The Invictus Games is an international adaptive multi-sport competition for serving and former serving military personnel who have been wounded, injured or become ill during their military service. The 2018 Invictus Games will be held in Sydney from 20 - 27 October. The Games will attract competitors from 18 nations who will compete in 11 adaptive sports events.

In this presentation, USI member Brigadier Phil Winter will explain the importance of adaptive sports for the wounded, injured and ill in the serving and ex-serving military community. He will describe how the 2018 Sydney Games can be a focal point for raising awareness of the power of sport in improving the lifestyles and general wellbeing of our ADF community, and give an update on how the Australian Defence Force and Returned & Services League are preparing the team. Phil will be accompanied by athletes who will speak about their own experiences as Invictus competitors.
