The aim of the institute is to promote informed debate and to improve public awareness and understanding of defence and national security.

Brief History
The Royal United Services Institute (RUSI) of Western Australia was founded in Perth in 1903. The original aim centred on improving the education of Service Officers by promoting the study of strategic and defence matters. A defence oriented library was established, which today contains a fine collection.
The RUSI of WA is a Constituent Body of the Royal United Services Institute of Australia.

The Royal United Service Institute of WA had a most interesting presentation this month from the head of the
ADF Force Structure Review team, Major General Michael Crane DSO AM.

Blamey Oration
The RUSI of WA conducts a Blamey Oration every Year.In 201r, Dr Ian J Watt AO, previous Secretary of the Department of Defence had been programmed to deliver the 2011 WA Blamey Address but was unable to deliver as planned due to his departure form Defence to take up his position of Secretary of PM&C. His presentation can be found in the latest Newsletter (click here) and permanently in the Transcripts section of the National Page.
The 2011Blamey Oration was provided by previous National President of RUSI, Major General John Hartley AO at the Army Museum of WA Lecture Theatre on 22 September 2011.
