Aim

The aim of the Institute is to promote informed debate, and to improve public awareness and understanding of defence and national security. The Royal United Service Institute (RUSI) Queensland was founded in Brisbane in 1892 under the presidency of Major General John Fletcher Owen, Commandant, Queensland Defence Force. The organisation centred on improving the education of Service Officers by promoting the study of strategic and defence matters. The RUSI of Queensland is a Constituent Body of the Royal United Services Institute of Australia

Secretary's Notes - March 2012

Social Events: There will be a number of Diamond Jubilee events in the coming months. RUSI Qld is pleased to be participating in a Diamond Jubilee Service to be held in honour of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.  The Service is open to all members, the families and friends. Diamond Jubilee Church Service at St. John’s Anglican Cathedral, Ann St Brisbane commencing at 9.30am Sunday 20th May 2012.  The Service will be conducted in the presence of Her Excellency, The Governor of Queensland.

A tour is being arranged to the Australian Aerospace facility at Brisbane Airport where the Armed Reconnaissance Helicopter is being assembled.  A firm date and time is to be confirmed but currently 0900 on Thursday 7th June 2012 is proposed. Consideration is also being given to a bus tour to the Oakey base later in the year.

The RUSIQ office hours are Tuesday and Wednesday of each week from 0930 to 1500.  The building and the Library will be open and staffed by our committee members or volunteer staff during these times.  Messages may be left anytime on the phone numbers or the email address. Membership Subscriptions: Annual Membership Renewal for the Financial Year 2011/12 were due on 1st July 2011.  If you have not paid your annual subscription, you are requested to forward your payment ASAP, together with advice to confirm your address details.  Unfinancial members will not receive copies of the RUSI Quarterly. Payments may be made by Electronic Transfer to our bank account: Heritage Building Society,  BSB 638-070,  Account No. 12221384. If you do so, please include your name in the bank transfer details.

All members are requested to advise us of their Email address if they actively use one.  This will help us to advise them of our activities throughout the year and save on the amount of postage and telephone calls.

RUSI of QLD Library

The RUSI of Qld Library has about 8000 books and other resources specialised in military history, general history, defence and national security matters.  Access to Library resources is free to members. RUSI Qld Publications

The RUSI Qld publishes the "RUSI Quarterly" in Autumn, Winter, Spring and Summer. The latest journal for March 2011 Issue 32 is now available for download. Click here to download. Please note it is 44 pages and is a large file (25MB).
