Welcome: National President - Vice-Admiral Chris Ritchie AO RANR
The Royal United Services Institute of Australia is here to support the defence Mission and to promote informed debate on Defence and Scurity matters.
The Institute is grateful to receive funding from the department in this mission and to gain much-needed financial support from our major National Sponsor Rolls-Royce.
The RUSI is a federation of independently constituted state and territory chapters, headquartered in Canberra, ACT. It is a non-profit organisation registered with the Australian Taxation Office and an Association registered with the ACT Government under the Associations Act. It provides educational, research and related services through its library services, website, journals and periodicals, regular presentations, conferences and seminars and visits to military installations.
The Royal United Services Institute of Australia has a long tradition of serving the community by promoting a better understanding of defence and national security. This includes an understanding of Australian defence strategy, contemporary and historic conflict, developments in military science and technology and all aspects of defence and security as they relate to Australia now and into the future. It has several thousand members in all states and the ACT and include serving and retired members of the Australian Defence Force and other interested in defence and national security.

Joining the RUSI of your Choice
New members are most welcome to join: you have much to gain by attending presentations, meeting a variety of speakers and by mixing with a variety of like-minded people and exchanging views in a cordial environment. You can join on-line using the on-line Membership Application Form (see top left side of the home page), enabling you to join and pay on-line through secure means. When joining you specify which State Body you would like to join. This gives you provisional membership in your chosen RUSI and gives you access to Members-only areas in the website and the ability to adjust your membership profile and details securely. You can also join any RUSI State Body by direct application to the address on their webpage on this website.
Registering for Access to Members'-only Benefits
Those members whose financial records are loaded on the RUSI website (USI of ACT, RUSI of Tasmania, RUSI of South Australia, RUSI of Western Australia) and planned for most other RUSI State Bodies later in 2012) are able to register for unlimited access to this website. To initially register, eligible members (as above) go to the Member Login area on the top right side of the home page and obtain login details by clicking on the area under the title: Members' Initial Registration. You will be sent (to the email address held in our records) your login details. Once you have your login details (a USERID which is your email address plus a password), you return to this website and login. Logged-in members can: access members'-only areas; change their password; and add to or change any other information in their Member's Proflie. Once nitially registered, if you later forget your Password you can get this from the Member Login area. If you cannot remember the email you provided your RUSI State Body, or you need other assistance please contact: webmaster@rusi.org.au or your state Membership Secretary for assistance.
Access to Transcripts
The RUSI National Body is in the process of creating members'-only access to transcriptions of those presentations given in State Bodies. When this is complete, only financial members of a RUSI State Body will be able to access this valuable resource. Until this process is complete, all interested people will have the opportunity to view and download this resource - you do not need to be registered or logged in to do so - for a limited period.
Chatham House Rule
We are often asked about the "Chatham House Rule" which governs the way presenters speak to us. Click here for an explantion.
